Australian firm reports huge organic fertiliser demand

An Australian agribusiness firm in south-east Queensland has reported that there's worldwide demand for its organic fertiliser.

An Indian farm group has bought 20,000 litres of the fertiliserthat has doubled the yields of some Queensland farmers.

Producer Lou Hatton says the fertiliser has been popular with growers wanting to reduce their chemical use.

"In Bundaberg, a commercial strawberry farmer up there doubled his yields using our product," he said. "Crops were far better in terms of sugar content, quality. Since the world war, they had all of these residual petro chemicals and decided to turn them into fertiliser, and since that date we've been fertilising our soils and turning it into an unhealthy environment to grow our crops. We've got to turn it around and we believe we've got the product to do that."
